Every once in a while I'll write something very different than the norm. Today is one of those days. It's your lucky day. Here's the thing. When I was a kid, my mom used to make my dad a pot of coffee and fill his thermos every morning. She'd do things like boil water and put it in the pot before putting coffee in it to "condition" it. Then insulated mugs came around and for the longest time I've seen people carrying these around with hot beverages in them. Until recently I hadn't noticed that some people microwave them when the coffee or tea gets cold. Yes, you read that right. They stick their mug in the microwave to warm up their drink. Isn't that...weird? I mean, the mug is supposed to keep your beverage warm for an extended period of time isn't it? Won't you ruin the mug? This bizzarre event happens quite a bit. So, being the geek that I am, I googled it today. Sure enough, there are some insulated mugs that are dishwasher and microwave safe. However, there are quite a few that are not microwave safe and must be hand washed. So be careful what you do and make sure you read the label or your insulated mug will no longer be insulating your drink! Not just that...there may be some elements in the mug that could overheat, melt, spark, etc. As Dr. Laura says, go do the right thing!
