On 2/19/2008 there was a meteor sighting in this area. So what? Well it was a big deal. Like May 18, 1980. Or like September 11, 2001 of course. There are a few events that stick out in your mind in a lifetime that you are asked, where were you when this happened. To me, this was one of those days. Why you ask? Well, truth be told, I wasn't awake when it happened and I was listening to first hand accounts all day in person and on the news. People were looking for it, it supposedly landed by 395 and Lind-Hatton which is right where my brother lives and works and where I grew up. Well, it turns out no one found this meteor anywhere. That's pretty weird. But allegedly this happens all the time... "they burn up and dissolve before hitting the Earth." Then there's accounts from a lot of people in Walla Walla that they not only saw it, but felt the ground shake. What's that all about? I mean, does the ground shake when there's a mid air explosion 50 miles away? If so, why didn't anyone in the Tri-Cities or closer to the meteor report that? My brother says he didn't hear or feel anything. Then my office mate at work tells me that this happens all the time. That "we" (the scientific community) don't monitor meteors that are smaller than the size of a car or something like that because there are too many of them. We're always getting bombarded with space debrees but no one is monitoring these things. That's just crazy. I mean, one the size of a car can take out an entire city if it hits in the right place, can't it? Wait a minute, why can't we hit these things and dissolve them before they hit the Earth? Don't we have Lasers? I mean, we're in the 21st century. My goodness people, get with the program. Anyhow, I think it's pretty interesting and I thought I would share my thoughts.
